I should note that as far as efficiencies and nuclear reactions go, whilst the original Casaba Howitzer and Orion was fission, the UNSC apparently uses fusion. Directs more of the energy at the target, but unless it's close up it probably doesn't translate automatically to more damage because its spread over a much greater area. You might be able to improve the efficiency for a Casaba howitzer by accepting a much higher mass/lower velocity beam (moving closer to the original tungsten-propellant setup, despite the fact it's heavier) - that seems to allow for more efficiency, albeit with greatly shorter range and a much wider divergence angle (it's entirely possible this is the idea they had behind the 'vacuum-enhanced' warhead idea - at least I can't think of anything better for such.) X-ray lasers are even less efficient and you might be looking at a few percent being translated into weapon energy at best. as I noted 5-10% is entirely possible for the Casaba howitzer which means that if we figure 4 archer missiles equal 1 megaton and it's 10% efficient, each 'spear' is only directing about 25 kilotons or so at the target, tops. This, however, does not magically translate into hundred kiloton x-ray laser or plasma jets o' doom, because bomb pumped weapons tend to be rather inefficient.
